Bollywood Indian Film Festival 2007



July 2002, Indian cinema had no presence in Australia, mainstream Australia had never seen a true Bollywood film.
With the personal support of Mr Yash Chopra, MG Distribution was born. Now less than five years later MG Distribution has released over sixty-five films throughout major multiplexes all over Australia. MG Distribution has also established the “Australian Indian Film Festival”.
The festival is the largest foreign film festival in Australia screening over six months across the country. The festival is attended by over 40,000 people per year with 65% being mainstream Australians, most seeing an Indian film for the very first time. The festival website receives over 300,000 hits per month.
The 2007 festival promises a spectacular evening of fashion and awards attended by India’s leading film makers and film stars in Sydney followed by the festival in Sydney, Melbourne and Australia wide.

2006 Festival Highlights
The 2006 festival was attended by Festival Patron Mr Yash Chopra, Festival Board Member Ms Simi Garewal and Directors Mr Rakesh Mehra (Rang De Basanti), Mr Kunal Kohli (Fanaa), Mr Apoorva Lakhia (Ek Ajnabee), and Mr Homi Adajania (Being Cyrus).
The festival featured a gala dinner at the prestigious National Gallery of Victoria where Indian fashion designers Mr Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Ms Surily Goel presented an exclusive fashion show designed especially for the festival. Special guest model was Ms Dipannita Sharma.
Three major awards were presented on the night. The first a lifetime achievement award presented to Mr Yash Chopra for his contribution to cinema.
The second for the most outstanding Indian film voted by Australia’s leading film critics awarded to Mr Rakesh Mehra for his film “Rang De Basanti”.
The third award was voted for by the public through the MG Distribution website for Australia’s most popular Indian star and was presented to Mr Shah Rukh Khan. The MG Distribution website received 306,000 hits during the month of October 2006 when the festival was screened in Sydney and Melbourne.
The festival received widespread media attention in India, America, New Zealand and Australia. In 2007 the festival is thrilled to welcome back to the gala dinner Sabyasachi Mukherjee who will present another stunning fashion show.
In addition Vikram Phatnis will also present his spectacular designs. The event will be covered by numerous Indian media partners and international media.
